About 75 m south is the Meadow and Gauley Rivers (rafters went by earlier). About 40 m to the east is the trail we hiked in on. Below us is a red (evergreen-hemlock) photo signature. A large boulder is about 7 m from the plot--on top is a great amount of herbaceous vegetation, where the deer can't access.;Dry, cool oak forest on hillside. River can be heard from the plot. No evidence of human disturbance. At top of plot there is an old skidder road about 10 m away. Representativeness
Plot is an oak/hickory forest on moderate slope, (very similar to the GARI plot with hornets), Lots of dry oak leaf litter. Plot is in ELU 1130/2130. Placed to sample deciduous photo signature and ELU. Some scattered large rocks (1 m) within plot.
